Harpy Eagle

It is one of the largest birds in the Peruvian Rainforest, considered a monkey hunter since its main diet is monkeys, snakes, armadillos and lizards.

After feeding, they can go without food for almost a month. The harpy eagle is found in the lowland jungle above 450 to 150 meters above sea level, but its habitat depends greatly on the climate and food.

Manu National Park is one of the wildest and most likely places to see the harpy eagle in its natural state and nesting between the months of December to February. They generally build their nests in the largest trees such as ceiba or chihuahuaco, which are safer than the Predators can even nest 2 or more times in the same tree.

Where can i find  the harpy Eagle?

The Peruvian jungle is very extensive but one of the most recommended places for sighting the harpy eagle and the best place for Bird Watching is the Manu National Park in the months of January to March since they are with their chick, every year they Sight nesting or sometimes eating monkeys, generally people from native communities sight faster since it is a danger when it has a chick and goes out in search of food and the natives are afraid of their small pets who are easy prey.

In 2024, Manu National Park, several harpy eagle nests were seen nesting in the chihuahuaco tree near the native community of Shintuya (Aranbut), and on the route from Pillcopata to Atalaya, a red howler monkey was seen eating, which is not very common.
